This section provides you with instructions for installing the time-limited trial version of BayesiaLab Professional.
To start the installation process, you first need to receive an email from the Bayesia License Server.
This email includes the following items:
A unique download link to your installation files (Windows, Mac, Unix/Linux)
Your Client ID in the format: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
The download link to the BayesiaLab installation files is unique to you and cannot be used again or shared with others.
BayesiaLab is Java-based and can be installed on a wide range of operating systems, including Windows (32/64-bit), Mac OS X (64-bit, Intel and ARM), and Unix/Linux (32/64-bit). Convenient installer packages are available for both Windows and Mac OS X.
Two principal types of licenses are available: the traditional single-user/single-machine license (SUSM) and a token-based floating license, which is intended for workgroups.
A Single User/Single Machine (SUSM) license is directly linked to the user’s computer. As part of the activation process, the user’s computer will be uniquely associated with the SUSM license (see installation instructions for Single-User License).
As an alternative to SUSM licenses, Floating Licenses are available via the Bayesia License Server (BLS). This type of licensing defines the number of concurrent users of the software. Each time the user launches the software, a request will be sent automatically to the BLS to obtain an available license token. If no token is available, the requesting user must wait until a token is released unless the requesting user has priority over the current user.
Two kinds of tokens are available:
Continental Tokens are defined by three major geographical areas, as defined by their time zones:
“NCSA” (North, Central and South America): GMT-12 to GMT -2
“EMEA” (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa): GMT-1 to GMT+3
“APAC” (Asia Pacific): GMT+4 to GMT+12
Worldwide Tokens, without geographical restrictions.

This section provides you with step-by-step instructions for installing a floating license of BayesiaLab on your computer.
Please note that the User Name and Password for connecting to the BayesiaLab License Server are different from your download credentials.
Upon connecting successfully, BayesiaLab will start up.
Before you can start the installation, you will need to receive the following two emails below from .
Upon starting BayesiaLab, you will be prompted to enter your User Name and Password to connect to the .
For the Floating License to work, BayesiaLab must be able to connect to and remain connected with bls1.bayesia.com:2424. If you enter your credentials and there is no response from the login window, this means that BayesiaLab cannot connect with the (BLS). Please open a web browser and go to to check whether you can access this URL.
If you are able to get the BLS' Login page but are still unable to get a response from the login window, you most likely have a problem with your Firewall. Please ask your IT administrator to define an outbound rule that will specifically allow BayesiaLab to communicate with the at address bls1.bayesia.com:2424. For instance, if you had BayesiaLab installed in the C:\Program Files\Bayesia directory, your IT administrator would need to establish an outbound rule for C:\Program Files\Bayesia\BayesiaLab\jreXXX\bin\javaw.exe (see screenshot below from a Windows Server 2008 installation).
If you cannot solve the firewall issue, a workaround consists of using an external, non-corporate Internet connection, e.g., at home or using a cellphone as a hotspot, etc., and connect to the BayesiaLab License Server from there without the firewall blocking problem. Then, you can enable the “” option on the second screen when you start up BayesiaLab. Then, you can work offline for the duration you have specified.
Upon completing the download, execute the downloaded file.
In Windows environments, Administrator rights are required for the installation.
The installer program will first prompt you for the language.
Upon language selection, the BayesiaLab Setup Wizard will start:
Click next to proceed to the License Agreement.
After accepting the agreement, the next screen will prompt you to select an installation directory.
Windows users can also choose the Start Menu folder, from which BayesiaLab can be started.
The next screen confirms the selections and lets you start the installation process.
Upon completion, the Wizard presents this screen.
This concludes the file installation; however, you will still need to activate BayesiaLab. To do so, you may wish to launch BayesiaLab straight away while you have all the credentials at hand.
After starting BayesiaLab for the first time, you will be prompted for your Client Identifier (or Client ID).
Enter the Client Identifier and click OK.
Check the "Automatic process" box and click OK to proceed.
BayesiaLab now communicates with the Bayesia License Server to validate your license.
If everything is OK, BayesiaLab starts up immediately and is ready for use.
The next screen prompts you to perform the Manual Activation via the Bayesia License Server.
The window provides several important pieces of information:
The Product Code, which is new to you.
The Activation Key field, which is still empty and which you do not yet have.
Copy the Client Identifier, the Product Code, and leave this window open. You need to return to it once you have obtained the Activation Key.
On this page, enter the Client Identifier.
Enter the Product Code (from the still-open window on the computer where you are installing BayesiaLab)
Click Activate.
The next page shows you the Activation Key/License Key.
Copy this Activation Key/License Key.
Return to the computer on which you are activating BayesiaLab
The Manual Activation window should still be open.
Paste the copied Activation Key/License Key into the Activation Key field.
Click OK to start BayesiaLab.
A Single-User/Single-Machine License must be activated/reactivated once per license term, typically once a year.
The Client Identifier in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX was provided to you in the email.

For most users, the will be simpler, but certain network configurations, e.g., with corporate firewalls, may prevent this process. In that case, becomes necessary.
In case the is not possible, e.g., if your computer is not directly connected to the Internet for security reasons, check the box for Manual process and click OK.
The URL of the Bayesia License Server activation page:
The Client Identifier, which you have already received in your email, is repeated here for your reference.
Go to any computer that has an Internet connection — a tablet or smartphone will suffice, and open this page in a browser:
Retrieve the Activation Password from the email.
For most users, this means clicking OK when the prompt comes up at the beginning of a new license term.

If you want to move the installation of your Single-User/Single-Machine License to a different computer, you need to follow this uninstallation/reset protocol.
Do not uninstall BayesiaLab using the standard uninstall methods.
Do not reformat or repartition your local drive, install a new operating system, or recycle your computer before performing this uninstallation/reset protocol.
Failure to adhere to this protocol may permanently disable your license.
You need to be able to use your computer with Administrator rights.
On Windows computers, select "Run as administrator" for Windows users
Run the BayesiaLab Uninstallation program: Windows: \Program Files\Bayesia\unins000.exe
macOS: Applications/BayesiaLab/Uninstall.command
Select Yes when prompted to remove the activation key.
If you do have an Internet connection, select "Automatic process" and click OK to uninstall BayesiaLab.
This will automatically send the Uninstallation Key to the Bayesia License Server and remove the BayesiaLab license from your current computer.
Upon completing this process, your Single-User/Single-Machine License can be installed and activated on a different computer using your original credentials.
If you do not have an Internet connection, check the Manual process and click OK to uninstall the program and immediately obtain your Uninstallation Key on the screen.
Copy the Uninstallation Key (highlighted in red) from the uninstallation window.
You need to formally submit this Uninstallation Key to Bayesia, which can be done in two ways:
Enter or paste the Uninstallation Key into the License Uninstallation form.
Click Uninstall
Once the Bayesia License Server receives the Uninstallation Key, your Single-User/Single-Machine License can be installed on a different computer using your original credentials.
By default, you can uninstall and then reinstall BayesiaLab no more than twice a year. Please contact us if you require additional resets.
If you plan to load data from a database or a data warehouse into BayesiaLab, you must first install the necessary database drivers.
These drivers are typically provided by the respective database vendor.
The following example shows how to connect to a MySQL database running on localhost.
Select Main Menu > Data > Open Data Source > Database
.
If no previous connection is defined, the Data Import Wizard will initially appear blank.
If the required driver is listed as not available, and thus grayed out, you will need to download the driver from the database vendor. In our example, the appropriate driver for MySQL is mm-mysql-2.0.7.jar.
For Mac OS X installations, we need to place mm-mysql-2.0.7.jar file into /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/ext
In a Windows environment, we would put mm-mysql-2.0.7.jar into C:\Program Files\Bayesia\BayesiaLab\jre1.6\lib\ext. The specific file path on your system is obviously dependent on where you have installed BayesiaLab.
Once the driver file is put into place, please restart BayesiaLab and repeat steps 1 through 3.
After clicking Search Available Drivers, the relevant driver will appear in the Driver List:
Click Select, and you will proceed to the next step of the Data Import Wizard, which enables you to connect to your database using your credentials.
Upon successful connection to the database server, the available database will appear under Catalog.
Select the database, click Apply, and the drop-down menu of Tables will appear.
Each table's fields can then be highlighted and selected to form a query. Upon selection, BayesiaLab will provide a data preview.
Clicking opens up a larger window, which provides an opportunity to enter longer SQL statements.
Clicking Execute concludes the database-specific portion of the import process.
Go to a computer with an Internet connection and open in a browser.
Alternatively, you can submit your Uninstallation Key to Bayesia by emailing
Clicking opens the list of currently installed drivers:
The elements in the lower portion of the dialogue box are identical to what is explained in the for text files in CSV format.
