2020 BayesiaLab Conference — Our First All-Virtual Gathering

The 8th Annual BayesiaLab Conference

In a year defined by disruption, the 8th Annual BayesiaLab Conference took an unprecedented turn: for the first time, the event was held entirely online. While we were disappointed not to gather in person in Toronto, the 2020 conference proved to be a remarkable success—and a testament to the adaptability and enthusiasm of the BayesiaLab community.

To preserve the spirit of connection and collaboration, we embraced an innovative solution: Virbela’s Laval Virtual World. This platform allowed participants to interact in a shared virtual environment, offering a richer experience than traditional video conferencing. Whether it was attending presentations, engaging in informal conversations, or networking between sessions, the virtual campus helped maintain the interpersonal dynamic that has always made our conference special.

With nearly 200 registrations, the 2020 BayesiaLab Conference welcomed more participants than ever before. Researchers and practitioners joined us in real time from across the globe—spanning time zones from British Columbia to Japan. This extraordinary level of engagement, especially under challenging circumstances, showed the enthusiasm of our growing community.
