E-Book: Bayesian Networks & BayesiaLab — A Practical Introduction for Researchers
The Original Book
We first released our book on Bayesian networks and BayesiaLab at the 3rd Annual BayesiaLab Conference in Fairfax, Virginia, in October 2015. Among BayesiaLab users, it quickly became known simply as "the book", their go-to reference for learning and applying Bayesian networks. For many students and researchers, it also served as a popular introductory textbook, a kind of Bayesian Networks 101.
In addition to the printed edition, available on Amazon (opens in a new tab), we've offered the book as a free PDF download. Since its launch, it has been downloaded over 30,000 times.
However, with BayesiaLab's rapid evolution, keeping the book current proved challenging. The user interface has been completely redesigned, numerous new features have been introduced, and even core terminology has changed since 2015. While we've worked sporadically on a long-promised second edition, we've taken a different path in the meantime: turning the book into a Living Document, one that can evolve in sync with the software and its user manual.
The New Online Edition
The new version of the book is now fully integrated into our website. All original cross-references have been converted into interactive hyperlinks, allowing you to instantly access related datasets, networks, video tutorials, and other learning resources.
Even with this dynamic structure, you can still read the book linearly, just like a traditional textbook. In fact, many readers have told us they've enjoyed reading it cover to cover, much like a novel.
